Brimstone Hill Fortress Natinal Park Society

Reception and Fun Lottery for Taxi Drivers

The ‘Matheson’ House, headquarters of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society, was on Wednesday evening 3 October the venue to the third annual Reception and Lottery Draw for Taxi Operators hosted by the Society.

Just over 100 taxi operators, their spouses, special guests and officers and staff of the Society, as they mingled, chatted and partook of light refreshments and drinks, were entertained by the mellifluous sounds of Nigel and Jerome Prentice of the St. Christopher Steel Band.

Following addresses by the President of the Society, Sir Probyn Inniss, and the Minister of State for Tourism, Hon Richard Skerritt, members of the gathering were invited to draw coupons from a barrel for 20 gift prizes for some lucky taxi drivers.

Those operators who made the most visits to Brimstone Hill with paying visitors were also awarded special prizes. The top three were: Vanrick Walters with 97 visits, Robert Gumbs with 93 visits and June Gumbs with 91 visits.
The Brimstone Hill Society acknowledges the valuable contributions made by Westside Service Center, Skyline Canteen and Sunlinc towards the prizes.

The Reception and fun lottery represent the culmination of an annual programme by which the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society, in recognizing the valuable role of taxi drivers to the success of its operations, reward them for bringing visitors to the Hill. In addition to the prizes, direct payments are made to taxi drivers which totaled $13,566 in 2005, $15,682 in 2006 and $17,370 in 2007.
