One of the major baking company's in St. Kitts
    (Basseterre; St. Kitts):
Although the price of flour has increased Government and the Bakers of St. Kitts and Nevis have come to a decision  not increase prices until next year.

According to a post cabinet release dated October 8, the bakers have agreed not to increase prices of baked goods until the end of the first quarter of next year, 2008.

The release added that about three weeks ago the Government began negotiations with bakers on the increase of the price of flour and the increase of the price of baked goods.

After three weeks of negotiations, Government has reached a settlement with local bakers on the price of bread and other baked goods consumed by the local public.

The release also said that the Bakers had cited the cost of flour had increased and that there needed to be a commensurate increase in the price of baked products.

~~Adz:Right~~ The full details of the agreement will be made public via a joint statement between the government and the bakers later this week.

In speaking with a local baker not only are they concern with the increase in cost of flour but the increase in the other ingredients to produce baked goods.

The baker cited that the cost of white flour has drastically increased by $10.

“At this moment we are still waiting to finalize things with Government before we are ready to comment on the situation,” he said.
