    Minister Carty attends Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting in Guyana

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 15TH 2007 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Minister of State for Finance, Sen. the Hon. Nigel Carty is representing Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, at the Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ Meeting in Georgetown, Guyana.
     
    Minister Carty will be among Heads of Government, who are Ministers of Finance, some 294 delegates and observers including representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the Commonwealth Partnership for Technical Management.
     
    On the agenda for the three days of talks are discussions on the World Economic Situation; Small States matters; a Review of IMF and World Bank issues; a review of poverty reduction processes in four countries; the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative (HIPC): Debt Relief and Sustainability - Recent Developments and Issues for Consideration and the technical discussions on Climate Change: The Challenges Facing Finance Ministers. Climate change in relation to civil society (a statement from the Commonwealth Foundation) and a private sector perspective will also be discussed. 

    Heads of Government States slated to attend the meeting include Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Prime Minister Hon. Said Musa of Belize, and Deputy Prime Minister of Barbados, Hon. Mia Mottley.
     
    Caribbean delegates leave on Wednesday immediately after the meeting to take part in the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in Washington.
