Tourism Month Continued Over the Weekend

~~Adz:Left~~The 2007 Tourism Awareness Month of Activities continued over the weekend with two exciting events. The first was the Tourism Kiddies Kamp that took place at the Dr. William Connor Primary School. Children from primary schools around the island attended, and were treated to a full day of fun. They were taught in group sessions about the concepts of tourism and the environment and were shown a video about the St Kitts Scenic Railway. Even the Minster of Education, the Honourable Sam Condor came by to talk to the students about the importance of the tourism industry. Sumptuous snacks and lunch kept the children going into the afternoon preparing them well for a grand tour of the White Gate Development, Rawlins Plantation Inn and a visit to Queenie's Well. The children all said that they enjoyed themselves.

The second event for the day was the Community Tourism Day at Black Rocks. A large crowd descended upon Belle Vue to eat, drink and make merry. Various arts and crafts vendors showcased their talent with souvenirs constructed of natural local materials. The sounds of Jingle Bells String Band, Nu Vybes and Shakal kept the crowd entertained well into the night. A mystery happy hour coupled with a bmobile Double Bubble kept things lively.

“The Kiddies Kamp achieved its aim of educating a sample of primary schoolers on the fundamentals of tourism. It was evident that they enjoyed the days activities and had great things to say of the experience. Community tourism at Black Rocks was by all accounts a fantastic event which brought out members of the surrounding community of all ages for a day of family oriented fun. ” This was the word from Unoma Allen, Corporate Communications Manager at the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.

The Tourism Awareness Month was designed to educate the general public of the importance and impact of the tourism industry on the nations’ economy. The theme this year stresses on the preservation of the environment.
