Basseterre; St. Kitts: The staff and students of the Sandy Point High School continue to underscore the need for locals to be more involved in the agricultural sector, as a means to reduce the cost of living locally.
This was quite evident as they celebrated Agricultural Science Day, in collaboration with World Food Day, on Tuesday, 16th October.
According to a representative from the Agricultural Department, every subject area being taught at the school is given the opportunity to promote that subject during a chosen month.
The Agricultural Science teachers were fully aware that October 16th is celebrated as World Food Day, so they chose October as Agricultural Science Month to coincide with it.
Several features were organized for the day, including the sale of local crops and products. The rearing of animals was also promoted.
The teachers and students are promoting a lifestyle where residents become more involved in agriculture and are calling for a return to a lifestyle of back yard farming amongst all residents.
