    Youths included in Nevis delegation to CTC-30

     

     

     

    Winner of Nevis Secondary Schools Youth Congress Debate, Charlestown Secondary School Student, Miss Ashlee Parris, prepares to assume role of Junior Minister of Tourism at CTC
    CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (OCTOBER 18, 2007)
    -- Winner of the Nevis Secondary Schools Youth Congress Debate, Miss Ashlee Parris and Conde Nast Traveler “My Caribbean Essay Contest” winner for Nevis, Miss Kerese Elliott, will form part of a delegation that will represent Nevis at the 30th annual Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC-30). The event will be held in Puerto Rico from October 19 – 24 under the theme “The Next Generation:  Learning from the Past, Preparing for the Future.”
     
    According to a statement issued by the Department of Tourism on Nevis, two of the major highlights of CTC would be the Conde Nast Traveler “My Caribbean Essay contest” grand finale and the Travel and Leisure Tourism Youth Congress.
     
    Ten-year old Miss Elliot of the Charlestown Primary School won the Conde Nast Traveler “My Caribbean Essay Contest” on the local level and is expected to join other students from around the Caribbean at CTC-30, where the top three winners will be announced.
     
    This year’s topic was “Imagine that you are the Minister of Tourism for
    Winner of the Conde Nast Traveler “My Caribbean Essay Contest”, Charlestown Primary School Student, Miss Kerese Elliot
    your Island, what would you do and what projects could you create to help bring locals and tourist closer together?”
     
    This year, Nevis will make its debut appearance in the Travel and Leisure Youth Congress.  Charlestown Secondary School Student, 15-year old, Miss Parris, will make history for Nevis as she assumes the role of Junior Minister of Tourism for Nevis at CTC-30. 
     
    The Youth Congress is structured to mirror the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) Board of Director’s meeting and Caribbean students will represent their country as Junior Ministers of Tourism.  They will expound on the topics “Health and Wellness Tourism” and “the Caribbean Intra-Regional Travel Market.”  A mystery topic will be given for the final round and a top Junior Minister of Tourism as well as second and third winners will be chosen.
     
    The Nevisian delegation will include Tourism Officer, Miss Nicole Liburd, Mr. Devon Liburd of the Nevis Tourism Authority and Ms. Vanessa Webbe of the Ministry of Tourism also teacher at the Charlestown Secondary School Ms. Jasmine Ward and students, Miss Parris and Miss Elliot.
     
    ~~Adz:Left~~The Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC) and Exhibition is CTO’s annual convocation of the widest cross section of the tourism industry. Travel professionals, tourism marketers, meeting and incentive planners, government representatives, educators, public and private sector decision makers convene to hear from and actively participate in discussions led by a dynamic roster of speakers, chosen for their accomplishments as well as their ability to successfully apply solutions to the challenges facing Caribbean tourism.
     
    The conference also allows for stakeholders to hear first-hand about industry trends; to be involved in problem-solving discussions; to network with industry leaders at the very highest level and to improve personal and professional effectiveness.
