Discussions held with officials for Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER  (CUOPM)
    – The continuing of the water project and a second cruise pier for Port Zante were discussed between St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and the Deputy Director General of the Kuwait Fund For Arab Economic Development,  Hesham I. Al-Waqayan at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington D.C.

Prime Minister Douglas, who was accompanied by Financial Secretary, Mrs Janet Harris; St. Kitts and Nevis Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS), His Excellency Ambassador Izben Williams and Financial Consultant, Ambassador His Excellency Wendell Lawrence, reviewed the cooperation and assistance that the Federation had received from the Kuwaiti Fund over the years and thanked the officials for their support.

This support was especially critical at the time when St. Kitts and Nevis seeks to transform its economy from primary agricultural production to one that is service oriented.

~~Adz:Right~~ The discussions were on the continuation of the Water Project which would essentially utilise the balance of funds still available from a previous project to bring water supply to housing developments and the construction of a second cruise pier at Port Zante.  Several options were considered for bringing this project to fruition.

The representatives from Kuwait expressed their commitment to supporting these projects and provided useful information on how funding could be activated.
