BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH two weeks remaining in the Nagico Insurance East Basseterre Football League, a number of teams are already holding on to the top spots in the competition as they battle continues for supremacy.

The ranking system is such that each team that wins a game would be allotted three points and if a game draws, each team would be allotted one point. Teams which would have lost a game would not be allotted any points.

The League commenced in early July and to date, Lock It is ahead of the pack with 13 points and trailing closely behind is Fluffy with 12 points. Not far behind are South Side and Ghetto Ballers with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Round d Field has managed to amass a total of seven points thus far with the Shottaz and BWFC teams gaining six and four points respectively.

The Pasture Roots and New Road teams have quite a bit of work to do in order to secure a place in the top five, as they have a mere three points each. It would mean then that they must – over the next two weeks – gain in excess of 10 points if they want a chance of emerging champions of the league.

Games played over the past week and a half resulted in victory for a number of the teams, with others experiencing the agony of defeat. However, as the league continues, opportunities of triumph are still present for the taking.

The July 27 game between Ghetto Ballers and BWFC resulted in a win for BWFC (1-0) with the winning goal being scored by Kadeem Lewis. A 1-0 victory was also achieved by Shottaz in the second match for that evening. The winning goal for that match came off the boot of Tony Archibald.

Shottaz’ victory parade was rained upon on July 28 when, despite its attempts to capture a win, Lock It showed its supremacy and took the game 4-1. Fluffy also suffered defeat (3-0) against Round d Field.

New Road defeated Pasture Roots; and Round d Field and South Side tied in the July 30 matches. The respective scores were 2-1 and 2-2. That evening’s midnight match featured Fluffy and Lock It, and resulted in a 1-0 win for the former.

On July 31, Ghetto Ballers defeated Shottaz 3-2 and on August 3, Fluffy defeated Pasture Roots by default and BWFC defeated New Road 3-2.

Thursday night’s (Aug. 4) double-header brought victory for Shottaz against Round d Field (2-0) and Ghetto Ballers was defeated (2-0) by Lock It.

The action continued last evening (Aug. 6) at the Newtown Football Field and the results will be posted in a subsequent article.
