BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are investigating a shooting incident that occurred last night (Aug. 6) in McKnight, which has left one man hospitalised.

According to the Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, Inspector Franklyn Belgrove, Erastus Laville of Fort Thomas Road, Basseterre was shot in his right instep at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The Inspector said investigations revealed that Laville was walking along Shaw Avenue, and when he reached the junction of that thoroughfare and Central Street a masked man, dressed in dark clothing suddenly appeared and fired a single shot at him.

He noted that a unit from the Emergency Medical Services transported the shooting victim to the JNF General Hospital, where he was treated and is currently warded in stable condition.

When asked if anyone was held in connection with the incident or if any person of interest is being pursued, Inspector Belgrove explained that because of the manner in which the gunman was attired, Laville was unable to recognise him but investigations are ongoing.

This is the second time in just over a year that gunmen had targeted Laville.

At about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, while Laville, Sylvester Crossley and Randell Hanley were seated on a wall in Adlam Street, Basseterre, in the vicinity of the Internet Café, two masked persons, dressed in black appeared and fired three shots at them.

Fortunately, all three of them escaped unharmed.
