BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 6th 2011 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in a congratulatory message to mark Jamaica’s 49th Anniversary says Jamaica and its people are a valued member of the Caribbean Community.

Dr. Douglas noted that on August 6, 1962, “in keeping with its historical tradition of courage and determination, even in the face of resistance and adversity, Jamaica stepped forward and asserted its status as a sovereign state and people.”

“Jamaica, the first member of the Caribbean Commonwealth to achieve independence from Britain, has since then gone on to assert their outstanding capabilities internationally in a range of fields, thereby winning for their country the admiration it so richly deserves,” said Prime Minister Douglas in a statement on Saturday.
