THE VALLEY, AnguillaIN what was named one of the most competitive and biggest Leeward Islands Calypso Competition since its 15 year existence, King Konris was dethroned but still managed to take the First Runner-up position on Saturday night (August 6) at the Landsome Bowl Center in Anguilla.

Dr. Splinter who hails from Anguilla was named the 2011 King singing ‘Scrap Book’ and ‘Integrity’ while De Bear from Antigua took the Second Runner-up position with ‘How I Long’ and ‘Melle For Sale’.

Konris performed a new song in the first round entitled ‘Oil and Water’ then increased the tempo a bit in the second round with his ‘Unstoppable Force’.

The other contenders were Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis, Luther Butler, Cambell ‘King Kung Fu Plen-tae’ Barnes, Andrew ‘Hollywood’ Nisbett, Clement ‘King Brat’ Richards and David ‘Pungwa’ Patrick.

It was said that the St. Kitts representative Pungwa, had a great chance of taking the crown but turned out to be a big disappointment in the second round forgetting some of the words to his song and leaving the stage before the song had end.

He had performed his famous ‘Hang Dem High’ and ‘Take the Old Clothes Off’ which won him the Calypso Monarch title last year in St. Kitts.

The highly anticipated Leeward Islands Calypso Competition came to an end sometime around 3:00 a.m.
