BASSETERRE St. Kitts – A tug boat by the name of Skutter went under water yesterday (August 7) just a few feet away from the pier of the St. Kitts Marine Works Ltd in New Guinnea.

The boat’s owner is presently in St. Maarten.  However, reports state that when the boat was checked on yesterday morning, all was fine with it, yet sometime in the afternoon it mysteriously sank.

Speaking with the Director of Marine Works, Reginald Francis, he said that at this moment, he is unaware as to why the boat sank but he will be looking into it.

He explained that the boat has been birthed at the pier for about one and a half weeks. It was supposed to be on dry dock but could not be taken out of the water due to the heaviness of the boat.

Francis explained that the owner should be coming tomorrow (August 9) to refloat the vessel.  At that time, Francis himself will be doing an inspection to check for foul play.

He said that he does not suspect anything; he believes that the vessel retained water due to the fact that the boat was emptied of ballast and fuel when docked, but an inspection will be done for assurance.

At present the boat is still under water with a small portion floating atop the water.
