BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE local 4X100 male relay team has made St. Kitts-Nevis proud after placing fourth in the AVIVA London Grand Prix while simultaneously improving its ratings as the 12th fastest team in the world.

The Diamond League event transpired on Saturday (Aug. 6) in London, where the team competed against three from Great Britain and one each from the United States of America, Jamaica, Germany and the Netherlands.

The St. Kitts-Nevis team comprised of Jason Rogers, Kim Collins, Antoine Adams, Brijesh Lawrence and Delwayne Delaney but only the first four participated in that event.

According to the Diamond League’s website, the St. Kitts-Nevis team clocked a time of 38.98 seconds, the fourth best of the race.

The US team clocked the best time with 38.23 seconds, followed by Great Britain’s teams two and one with 38.60 seconds and 38.83 seconds respectively.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletic Association, Evris Huggins, because of the team’s performance, the Federation is now ranked 12th in the world for the year; a position it shares with Switzerland.

Commenting on the team’s accomplishments, Huggins told SKNVibes that the association feels a sense of pride in the team’s feat and the progress it has made thus far.

“We are definitely excited. The prediction earlier this year was that we are going to have one of the most successful seasons on all levels. And for our main relay team to have topped their own 4X100m record by almost half a second within the past 12 months, speaks of the progress of our athletes. The SKNAAA is very proud of the progress of the athletes thus far.”

He explained that the team’s performance also placed St. Kitts-Nevis within the top 16 rankings for the Olympic Qualification standards for 2012. Notwithstanding, however, he expressed that the goal is to place within the top eight of the world.
