    Team recovers from 2-0 deficit

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER being down two-nil at the end of the first half, BWFC changed their strategy and launched an all-out attack on Lock It’ goal to defeat the East Basseterre Football League’s points leaders by three goals to two.

This was the second match for the evening played yesterday (Aug. 8) at the Newtown Playfield, and the first goal came off the boot of Lock It’s Kervin Benjamin and, some 30 minutes after, he was followed by teammate Devaughn Elliott.

However, not daunted by the possibility of defeat and seemingly strengthened by the prospect of victory, BWFC kicked its game plan into high gear and delivered the remaining three goals of the match.

Two of BWFC’s goals were scored by Dajal Kelly and one in the dying minutes of the game Rogers.

The first of the double-header for that evening was played between Pasture Roots and Round d Field, and after 90 minutes of play neither team was successful in getting the ball past each other’s goalkeeper.

Sunday’s (Aug. 7) matches resulted in draws, with Ghetto Ballers and South Side’s game ending in 4-4 and New Road and Shottaz’ ending in 1-all.

Ghetto Ballers’ scorers were Ashton Davis, Jermer Browne, Glenroy Samuel and Shawn Martin while South Side’s goals came off the boots of Trevis Adams, Tumal Nisbett and Imron Ponteen (who scored two goals).

Valmon Jeffers scored the lone goal for New Road and Ricky Thomas for Shottaz.

Fluffy and South Side’s match on Saturday (Aug. 6) also resulted in a draw with a total of four goals being scored. Scorers for the match were Fluffy’s K. Browne and South Side’s Imron Ponteen.

Kadeem Lewis and Dejal Kelly scored the two goals that secured a win for BWFC over Round d Field (nil) in the second match of that evening.

Matches continue tomorrow (Aug. 10) and also on the following day, as well as on Saturday (Aug. 13) when the Final Four Competition begins.

According to organiser of the event Don ‘Dango’ Farrell, the four teams with the most points at the end of Thursday’s game would advance to the Final Four Competition, where the first and fourth, and the second and third would compete.

From these groups, two teams would advance and the battle for ultimate supremacy would ensue.

The league is scheduled to conclude on the weekend of August 20.
