Commissioner Austin Williams

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – BY no means his farewell speech, outgoing Commissioner of Police Austin Williams has already begun extending words of gratitude to those who assisted him along his law-enforcement career path.

Williams recently gave remarks at a ceremony to officially commence the training of 14 security officers from Ross University and Windsor University to become Island Constables. And it was during that presentation that he expressed the sentiments.

The COP, whose successor has been named as 53-year-old son of the soil Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn, acknowledged the “eminence” of the incoming commissioner during the ceremony and informed that he is scheduled to take command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force at the end of this month.

Speaking exclusively with SKNVibes, Commissioner Williams informed that the official “Passing of the Baton” ceremony and transfer of the Commissionership would take place on Wednesday, August 31 at Warner Park.

Commissioner Williams advised that as he leaves office and hands the responsibility of command of the force to Walwyn, support should be given to the incoming commissioner.

“It is no secret at this stage that I will demit office at the end of the month as well, and so I take this opportunity to appeal to you to give Mr. Walwyn your fullest support and cooperation when that time comes. I also take this opportunity to thank all for the overwhelming support and cooperation which you gave me not only during my tenure as Commissioner of Police but throughout my entire law enforcement career,” COP Williams expressed.

In a previous interview with this publication, Walwyn promised that when he takes command of the RSCNPF, specific measures would be implemented which would lead to a change in the modus operandi of the officers within the organisation.

Walwyn – who has extensive experience in law-enforcement - also indicated that restoration of the public’s confidence in the police is one of the key areas that needs to be addressed if the crime situation were to be adequately addressed.
