    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, August 11th, 2011  –The Department of Human Resources in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Department of Labour hosted its fifth annual National Scholars Forum and Job Fair.

    The fair, which was opened to all national scholarship recipients including those from the Ministry of Education and Culture’s scholarship programme as well as the Department of Human Resources’ study-leave programme, was held at the Public Service Training Centre on July 22.A cross-section of private and public organisations including Scotiabank (British Virgin Islands) Limited, BDO Binder, CITCO (BVI) Limited, BVI International Finance Centre, BVI Airports Authority, BVI Health Services Authority, Departments of Trade and Consumer Affairs, Labour, Ministries of Education and Culture and Finance were present at the fair to offer advice and guidance and allow the participants an opportunity to network.

     

    Ms. Kaisa Penn, Human Resources Manager responsible for Strategic Succession Planning in the Department of Human Resources speaking to the Department of Information and Public Relations said, “I am delighted with the turnout at the fair as a number of national scholars and Virgin Islanders were able to benefit. In fact we have already begun planning for next year’s fair.”

     

    Explaining the purpose of the fair Ms. Penn said, “It is held to create the needed environment to encourage employment and career opportunity discussions between recent college graduates and students in their third and fourth year of studies.”

     

    “Additionally, the forum and job fair is a tool used to assist the Government of the Virgin Islands in receiving a return on the financial investment made by providing tertiary education for the people of the Territory,” Ms. Penn added.

     

    The Department of Human Resources remains committed to ensuring that there is an adequate work pool to fill the needs of the public service.
