BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 12th, 2011 (CUOPM) – A home to promote several community activities will be opened in Sandy Point this coming Sunday. Rev. Dr. Bertram Charles said Charles Koroma House, will also maintain and establish ancestral bonds among the people of Sierra Leone, West Africa and St. Kitts and Nevis.
 
Dr. Charles, who has traced his roots to the West African nation, said Koroma House, located on Millard Street, Sandy Point will be opened during a ceremony on Sunday afternoon at two o clock.
 
“Charles Koroma House will promote civil, social, cultural, charitable and educational activities including but not limited to the arts, literature, music, sculpture and paintings. It will also maintain and establish bonds of culture, history, heritage and interests among the community, people of the Caribbean and Africa – St. Kitts and Sierra Leone,” said Dr. Charles in an interview.
 
He said the Charles Komora House will also foster and cooperate with persons, organisations, associations, institutions or other agencies having similar objectives.
 
Dr. Charles added that the institution will also promote, encourage and assist needy students through awards and scholarships.
 
Komora House will also host conferences, seminars, inter-faith and memorial services. A library/archive will also be established.
 
Dr. Bertram Charles was born in Sandy Point, St. Kitts. He began his education in St. Kitts. He received his high school diploma from Washington Irving Night High School, New York; AA degree, BMCC, New York; BA degree, CCNY, New York; JD Degree, Howard University, Washington, DC; LEC, Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad, West Indies.

 He is a former Attorney, U.S. Department of Labour, Washington, DC; Attorney, Legal Services of the Virgin Islands; Assistant Attorney General, U.S. Virgin Islands; Legal Practitioner; Soldier, Soldier, U.S. Army; Chaplain, Post 85 American Legion and Minister

He was Legal Adviser in the Government of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and was appointed its Ambassador to Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

He is the recipient of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Dr. Charles is also an author. His books are Whitehall Street, 1998; All 8-2000, 2001; Alien in Paradise: A Time for Healing in the U.S Virgin Islands, 2004 and Beyond the Legacy of Slavery, From St. Kitts to Sierra Leone.
