    The St. Kitts Foundation

~~Adz:Left~~ST. KITTS - The developers of Christophe Harbour are committed to protecting the environment of St. Kitts and benefiting the island community economically as well as socially. As a result of that dedication, the St. Kitts Foundation, a non-profit organization, was created in January 2007. The foundation was formed by Kiawah Development Partners and their investment associates in close alliance with the government of St. Kitts, the community and The Ocean Foundation.

The St. Kitts Foundation supports long-term sustainable development, community-based conversation, and sound management of the island’s natural resources. The Foundation was fashioned to create a lasting community benefit mechanism that generates funds to provide local support for all three pillars of sustainable development: social, ecological and economic. It will ensure the responsible development and positive economic impact of the luxury resort, Christophe Harbour – preserving the island’s rare ocean rain forests, exotic flora and fauna, fine beaches and coral reefs that make St. Kitts an increasingly popular tourism destination.

Firesky Ventures, directed by developer J.B. Turbidy, and Auberge Resorts, a leading development and management company, are two of the many partners conjoined in the creation of Christophe Harbour. The companies banded together, along with The Ocean Foundation, to implement integral environmental practices and ensure the coast line and island’s natural resources are properly preserved for generations to come. The Ocean Foundation is a Washington D.C.-based international non-profit corporation, which provides high-end philanthropic advance for the community of donors who care about the coast and oceans. The board is comprised of individuals with significant experience in marine conservation philanthropy, complemented by a growing advisory board of scientists, policy makers, education specialists, and others with known expertise.

Initial priorities of The St. Kitts Foundation include:

o Providing books, uniforms, equipment, and other needs of Basseterre High School students in the mentor program

o Supporting the participation of Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) in the Peninsula Marine Ecosystem Survey Week where they deliver education, training and materials

o Backing the radio production component of EarthEcho International’s three EarthEcho Expeditions on St. Kitts to be distributed as part of an EarthEcho series by “Living on Earth”  through Public Radio International

o Sponsoring materials for St. Kitts Sea Turtle  Monitoring Network’s (SKSTMN) Turtle Conversation summer camp, serving 100 local students
