Cable & Wireless Press Release
Cable & Wireless Captures Top Tourism Award

Prime Minister Douglas presents Tourism Partner of the Year Award to Cable & Wireless' Chief Executive, Patricia Walters
The coveted title of Tourism Partner of the Year was conferred on Cable & Wireless St. Kitts & Nevis Ltd at the annual Tourism Banquet and Awards organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture.

The full service telecommunications provider emerged victorious over other contending corporate entities on account of its overall involvement with the tourism product and its leading role in the involvement with Sports Tourism initiatives.

Relative to the latter criteria specific mention was made of Cable & Wireless’ critical contribution to ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, as well as other tourism community projects.

Accepting the award on behalf of Cable & Wireless was a very proud Patricia Walters, its Chief Executive. “We are happy to play our part in the economic growth and development of St. Kitts and Nevis and more particularly in Tourism, the main engine of growth in the Federation.

A world-class tourism product requires world-class telecommunications infrastructure and so in addition to our corporate social responsibility for which we are primarily being honoured, we are also happy that we have provided sound telecommunications backing as part of the overall tourism product.”

Minister of Tourism, Honourable Richard Skerritt was among the first to congratulate Cable & Wireless. Said the Minister, "Cable & Wireless has shown a level of social responsibility in St Kitts and Nevis which should be a model for other corporations to follow.

Their partnership with our Ministry of Tourism, Sports & Culture on major event tourism ventures such as Cricket World Cup, St Kitts Music Festival, National Carnival and Nevis Culturama has made the difference between ordinary and extraordinary success.”

Throughout the course of the last two years, Cable & Wireless St. Kitts & Nevis has used its relationship with other Cable & Wireless business units throughout the Caribbean, to promote offers that have brought their customers to Music Festival and Carnival.

The Tourism Partner of the Year Award is just one of several recognitions which Cable & Wireless has received over the course of the last several months.  The company was also the recipient of the Corporate Sponsor of the Year, awarded by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
