Fluffy advance to finals in East Basseterre Football league

Team Fluffy

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - DEFENDERS of the NAGICO East Basseterre Football League Championship, Fluffy, have advanced to the finals of the competition and await the winner of this evening’s (Aug. 14) game to know who they will tackle in the last leg of the league.

Fluffy team members took to the Newtown Football Field promptly at 8:00 last evening (Aug. 13) against BWFC, with both teams struggling to secure a spot in the final two.

The game was somewhat tense, with both teams fully cognisant of the fact that losing the match would mean their chance of winning the championship would have been spent.

Progressing with numerous squandered opportunities to score goals by each team, the first and only goal of the match was not scored until minutes before the game ended; a golden opportunity seized by Fluffy’s Zevon Archibald who skillfully guided the ball into his opponents’ nets.

Leader of team Fluffy, Jermaine ‘Most High’ Baptiste told SKNVibes that although the team could have scored more goals, they were happy for the win.

“We have been knocking on the door many times with the hope that we would get in and we got one in. We had more opportunities to score and we could have gotten more goals. We were too anxious going to goal, but we got through finally.”

Baptiste also expressed confidence that his team would – once again – capture the championship, so much so that a victory party date has already been set.

“We have been in the finals already and we came out victorious, so we are entering this year’s finals with the same game plan from last year…go out there and work hard. I am confident that we are going to win. We already have a party date set, so we have to win.”

This evening, at the Newtown Play Field, Ghetto Ballers will come up against South Side and the winner of that match will faceoff with Fluffy on Sunday (Aug. 20) in the final game of the league.

The losers of last night’s match and this evening’s match would compete for third position.

The team that captures the NAGICO East Basseterre Football League Championship title would win $1 000 from Nagico, a trophy as well as one year’s worth of bragging rights and rights to East Basseterre NAGICO rotating Championship Cup.
