Mr. Brian Mills of Ramsbury hands over the keys to a 2000 Subaru Forester to Superintendent Samuel Seabrookes Head of the Nevis Police Division to assist in their crime fighting efforts. An elated Premier Parry looks on
    CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (NOVEMBER 08, 2007)
-- The Nevis Division of the Royal St. Kitts and Christopher Police Force received another gift from a concerned citizen on Wednesday November 07, 2007, to aid in its efforts to combat crime on Nevis.

Premier of Nevis Hon. Joseph Parry, who also has responsibility for security in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), thanked Mr. Brian Mills of Ramsbury for his gift of a 2000 Subaru Forester and acknowledged that the vehicle would compliment the Lawmen’s crime fighting efforts.

“We are very concerned about controlling crime on the island. The police have done a very good job over the past years and they continue to work very hard. We realise that there is some use of drugs on the island and sometimes sale of drugs and I am quite sure that with these vehicles and the use of the K9 Unit, we will see a falling off in this activity over the next few years.

“We also need to make sure that we continue to work with the young people of the island to ensure that they will be responsible citizens and stay away from crime. We need to support the police and I applaud you for this example that you have demonstrated. I do hope that other Nevisians and other persons, who are interested in security and in reducing crime, will help the police the police as we in the government seek to do this as well,” he said.

During the presentation, Mr. Mills said he became aware of specific needs of the Nevis Division when he enquired from Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Liburd earlier this year.

He said he was moved to make the donation when he became cognizant of the wanton neglect of the various police stations, the rudimentary working conditions under which the officers had to perform and the dire need for additional patrol vehicles to augment the four police stations on Nevis.

“At the time they were in need of a vehicle that could transport a dog for the new K9 Unit and others that could be attached to the CID Unit. Mr. Liburd also wished that any and all vehicles be low maintenance and fuel efficient. As a proud owner of Subaru vehicles myself I knew that these vehicles would meet all his needs,” he said.

Mr. Mills expressed his gratitude to his family and friends for their support and to TDC for its assistance with transportation of the vehicle from St. Kitts to Nevis. He also seized the opportunity to encourage persons to assist the police and urged the Lawmen to care for the vehicle.

~~Adz:Left~~“May I encourage fellow Nevisians and all that have come to cherish our beloved island especially the corporate businesses on the island to adopt a worthy cause and give generously to our developing society.

“To Superintendent Seabrookes and members of the Police Force I urge you to please put this Forester to proper use. It should reflect what is noble and good in the profession and not be exploited for non enforcement and personal purposes. Take proper care and service it regularly and I assure you it will serve the department for many years,” he said.

In response Head of the Nevis Police Division Superintendent Samuel Seabrookes, thanked Mr. Mills for the gift and gave the assurance that the vehicle would be cared for and used for the purpose it was intended.

He also used the opportunity to appeal to other persons in the private and public sectors to continue to make contributions to the police namely in area of dogs, computers, traffic readers and other equipment which he said would help the police to enhance their crime fighting capabilities for the benefit of the entire community.

Also present at the handing over ceremony were Inspector Andre Mitchell, Sergeant Alanzo Carty and other ranks.
