Press Release

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, August,16th, 2011 - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour in collaboration with the Conservation and Fisheries Department is informing the public that the meetings proposed for this week to discuss and develop the Cane Garden Bay Beach Management Plan have been pushed back a week due to circumstances beyond the organiser’s control.

Therefore, the first round of meetings will commence on Monday 22nd August 2011 and be followed by the second round of meetings during the first week of October. This gives stakeholders the entire month of September to review and comment on the proposed Code of Practice for Cane Garden Bay Beach resulting from the first round of meetings.

The schedule of meetings has been amended and is reflected on the Conservation and Fisheries Department’s homepage at http://www.bvidef.org. For more information contact Ms. Angela Burnett Penn at abpenn@gov.vg or Ms. Atoya George atgeorge@gov.vg at the Conservation and Fisheries Department 494-3429.

The beach management plan will address issues of overcrowding, conflicting use of spaces, poor waste management and water quality issues.

It will also build consensus on ground rules to govern activity on the beach. The public’s usual support is anticipated and the coordinators of the meetings sincerely regret any inconvenience caused.
