South Side, Fluffy to battle for title

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts
ANTICIPATION mounts as the South Side ‘In d building’ team and team Fluffy prepare themselves to faceoff in the final leg of the Nagico Insurance East Basseterre Football League.

Both teams advanced to the finals after games played on last Friday (Aug. 12) and Saturday (Aug. 13).

In Friday’s game, Fluffy pulled through with a win against BWFC and Saturday’s game between South Side and Conaree’s Ghetto Ballers resulted in a 2-1 win in favour of the ‘In de Building’ team.

South Side’s scorers were Imran Ponteen and Shashi Isaac while Ghetto Ballers’ lone goal came off the boot of Ashton ‘Deuce’ Davis.

Both teams got off to a relatively slow start with none of the goals being scored before the whistle blew to end the first half of the match. The second half however seemed to have been the time for seized opportunities with Ghetto Ballers securing its goal.

South Side not only matched Ghetto Ballers’ one goal but drove another past their opponents’ goalkeeper to seal the deal.

Before South Side and Fluffy meet on the field on Saturday (Aug. 19) at 8:00 p.m., Ghetto Ballers will battle against BWFC for third position in the competition. This match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.

Organiser of the league, Don ‘Dango’ Farrell told SKNVibes that an under-17 exhibition match will be held prior to the opening match.

South Side’s leader, Teshawn ‘Salt Fish’ Walwyn told this publication that his team would be “going with the championship” and that “we already have everything locked up”.

Fluffy – defending champions – has also expressed confidence in winning the cup, so much so that a date for its victory celebration has already been earmarked.

The winners will walk away with an EC$1 000 prize.
