Another shoplifter caught at Lucky Cosmetics

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A 45-year-old woman is in police custody after she was caught today (Aug. 17) stealing a number of items from the recently-established Lucky Cosmetics, situated at Amory’s Building at The Circus in Basseterre.

SKNVibes was told that shortly before 12 noon Verian Baptiste of Thibou Avenue, McKnight, had entered Lucky Cosmetics, picked up five sticks of Secret roll-on valued at $74.75, two bottles of Listerine valued at $15.90, three tubes Colgate Toothpaste valued at $36.85, and one Jumbo Braid valued at $2.95, all of which she placed in a shoulder bag.

However, a female employee of the store was observing Baptiste’s every move and accosted her when she was about to put the Jumbo Braid in her bag.

The female employee told this media house that when she approached Baptiste and queried about the braid, the 45-year-old woman threw it on the floor and headed out of the store.

“I called a male employee and quickly explained to him what transpired. The male employee and I left the store and he went in pursuit of her as she was heading south along Fort Street.

“While he went after her, I saw two police officers and told them what she did. One of the officers quickly went around to the Bay Road while the other one walked in the direction where she went, and they cornered her.

“The officers apprehended her and took her to the Basseterre police Station along with the stolen items in her bag,” the female employee said.

This is the third time in less than a month that individuals had stolen items from Lucky Cosmetics.

A Newtown resident, Trevor Roberts of Pitcairn Street, was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison on August 9 for allegedly stealing two packets of Jerry Curl weaves (valued at EC$210) from the establishment.

And two weeks prior, a man, dressed in baggy pants and an over-sized shirt, entered the store and removed a large quantity of items from a display shelf.

He hid them in his clothing and managed to leave the premises before the manager and the employees discovered the items missing.

The police are however in search of him because a review of the security camera revealed his illicit actions.
