A young inspired singer with hopes and dreams

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DESPITE the many killings and negativity surrounding the Federation, some youths are still finding positive role models to idolize.  15-year-old Shyan Liburd of the MC Knight community has decided to follow the path of local artiste Minister LK.

According to Liburd, who is a neighbour to Minister LK, she has hopes of being a singer and spreading the message of love in her music.

She indicated that she has been singing since the tender age of nine but first sang publicly in July at the Irishtown Primary School Princess Pageant, when she performed a song alongside her mentor LK, who introduced her as one of his new and upcoming artistes.

Minister LK, who is best known for tracks such as ‘Better Days’ and ‘Where Is The Love’, said he knows Liburd who resides in his neighbourhood, and one day she stopped him on the road and told him she was writing a song and needed some help.

The song, entitled ‘Ghetto Youths’, was written by Liburd and her 13-year-old brother Lester Liburd.

Its message is that shooting is not the only thing happening to people in the ghetto but there are other things affecting them such as starvation and poverty.

Liburd has not yet released any tracks but plans to debut with a collaboration featuring Minister LK called ‘Silent Cry’.

A smiling Liburd said she hopes that when she is fully introduced to the public, she will be given the opportunity to have her voice heard not just locally but both regionally and internationally.

She has also begun working on a number of other tracks that SKNVibes will feature in the weeks to come.
