Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts 18th August 2011 - The long summer vacation provides numerous opportunities for young people to be positively engaged.  For those who are football enthusiasts, the LIME/Elvis “Star” Browne Football School of Excellence has become a popular option.  This same summer camp can be credited for spring boarding the professional career of the likes of Atiba Harris, Keith “Kayamba” Gumbs, and Jevon Francis among others.

LIME’s sponsorship of this camp spans some eighteen years this year. Over this period some 650 young people have received coaching in the rudiments of the game. Speaking at the camp’s opening ceremony this year, LIME’s Corporate Communications Manager, Laverne Caines, described the sponsorship as ‘maturing.’  “Our sponsorship has come of age this year at eighteen years, having endured many challenges over the course of those years.”

Asking the participants by show of hands to indicate if they were aged eighteen she observed, “That none of you could raise your hands is clear confirmation that long before all of you were born, LIME has been sponsoring this event and because we have continued our commitment you are today able to benefit from the ongoing training. That is commitment from a sponsor which is serious about the long-term development of young people,” she emphasized.

Director of the Department of Sports, Mr Dave Connor extended appreciation to the sponsors for their enduring sponsorship commitment for the two-week camp.  He asked the aspiring footballers to stand and applaud the good corporate citizenship of the sponsors saying, “Had LIME withdrawn its sponsorship, we could not have had you here today. This sponsorship means even more to us given that many sponsors have either reduced or withdrawn their support for sports.  We have nothing but praise and appreciation to LIME for its continued investment in sports in St. Kitts & Nevis,” he concluded.

The Department of Sports was challenged to devise creative means to use the company’s telecomms services for the advancement of the sport. “While we may not be able in the short term to increase the dollar value of the sponsorship, we want to challenge you to think of creative ways that you can tap into our services to garner support for the sport and its players.

We challenge you to come up with exciting ways that you can use our services to expand the avenues through which the fans can support the game,” she encouraged.

The camp which normally runs for two weeks was extended by an extra week and ended on Friday 12th August.
