Chief Minister Meade Congratulates New CARICOM Head

    BRADES, Montserrat August 16th, 2011 – Congratulations and best wishes have been extended to the incoming head of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) from the Chief Minister of Montserrat, Hon. Reuben T. Meade.

     

    On Tuesday, the Office of the Chief Minister sent the following statement to the new the Secretary General of CARICOM, H.E. Ambassador Irwin Larocque.

     

    “I salute you, Ambassador Larocque, on behalf of the Government and People of Montserrat on your ascension to the Office of Secretary General of CARICOM. 

     

    We in Montserrat are proud to associate with your achievement as a long standing cultivator and promoter of the functional benefits of regional integration. 

     

    “You have however come to the high Office of Secretary General at a time when integration has come to mean much more than just working together.

     

    We share the belief however that you have the vision, energy and sense of purpose to re-define and re-focus our movement to solidify the progress we have made so far, particularly in strengthening our economies. 

     

    “Our combined efforts to survive as a region under threat from marginalization, global warming and a host of other natural disasters, along with our inherent vulnerabilities as small island states, are issues on which you are well suited to lead, facilitate and galvanize global support, in addition to rallying our own CARICOM Citizens through their Governments.

     

    May God continue to grant you wisdom and guidance in your future endeavours.”

     

    H.E. Ambassador Irwin Larocque, 56, is a national of Dominica and previously served as Assistant Secretary-General for Trade and Economic Integration at the CARICOM Secretariat for six years.

     

    He is the seventh secretary general for CARICOM and fills the post made vacant in 2010 by H.E. Sir Edwin Carrington.
