Windsor University student drowns in pool at Sugar Bay Club

    FRIGATE BAY, St. Kitts – POLICE in St. Kitts are investigating the death of a 22-year-old female student of Windsor University School of Medicine who is said to have drowned yesterday (Aug. 21) in a swimming pool at the Sugar Bay Club in Frigate Bay.

     

    According to Acting Police Press and Public relations Officer, Sergeant Stephen Hector, at about 7:45 a.m. yesterday, Windsor University student Mandeep Kaur fell into the pool at the Sugar Bay Club and died.

     

    “All reports to date indicate that Mandeep Kaur was taking pictures and fell. Two other students jumped into the pool to assist but encountered difficulties.

     

    “Other persons also went into the pool to assist but were unable to save Kaur. Two students who assisted Kaur were taken to JNF Hospital, where they were treated and subsequently discharged.
    Investigations are ongoing and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death,” Hector said.

     

    SKNVibes learnt that the medical student of Chicago, USA was scheduled to write her final year exams this week.

     

    She has been the second student of Windsor University School of Medicine to have died by drowning in St. Kitts over a three-year period.

     

    On March 28, 2008, Osama Hadi, also of Chicago, USA, and two other students went to bathe in the sea at North Friars Bay when he experienced difficulty while in the water and subsequently drowned.
