BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A fresh new young face has been added to the local music industry and already the 14-year old has been creating a buzz with his hot new single ‘Take A Ride’, and his smooth flow already has the young ‘chicas’ screaming when he steps onstage.
Dejour Alexander who hails from Hayne Smith Village has been burning up the airways with the single, which has also begun building a name for him and made him a winner in the ZIZ 50th Anniversary song competition in May.
The song which was penned by the young singer was originally released in May but will have a music video release later this week.
According to Alexander, he has been singing since the tender age of seven and initially began at the Antioch Baptist Church of which he is a member.
His voice was then heard beyond the church when he took part in the 2011 Clash of the High Schools Competition, which his school won, and he then went on to perform at the first ever Teen Splash.
Alexander said since the release of the song he has been encouraged to keep his head on, stay positive and to be a role model to younger ones.
He also indicated that many people have been loving the song and saying it is crazy. Alexander said he had written the song for a girl he likes because he wanted to let her know, therefore, he put it in a song.
The 3A1 student had also dabbled in calypso at an earlier age and had been placed First Runner-up in the Dr. William Connor Primary School calypso show while he was a student there.
Alexander is the son of Dwight and Jermaine Alexander, who are both confident that their son can definitely reach far if he stays on track, stays positive and always keep God in the midst.
He is currently a part of the IRep SKN Music label where he is preparing a number of tracks with the team and will also be performing at the upcoming Independence Gala.
