BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, August 25th, 2011 (CUOPM) – History is in the making on Friday when two cruise ships will be berthing at St. Kitts’ Port Zante at the same time during the summer.
An estimated five and a half thousand cruise passengers are expected to be onboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s “Serenade of the Seas” and Carnival Cruise Line’s “Carnival Victory.”
The 2,501-passenger capacity “Serenade” which should have visited on Tuesday will arrive Friday due to a rescheduling as a result of Hurricane Irene.
The Serenade, which left San Juan Puerto Rico on its seven-day Southern Caribbean cruise visiting Aruba on Tuesday and Curaçao on Wednesday. It will dock in St. Kitts on Friday and will keep its Saturday scheduled visit to St. Maarten.
The 3,050-passenger capacity Carnival Victory cancelled its Monday call to St. Thomas and went to Barbados for is scheduled call on Wednesday. It will on Friday in St. Kitts on Friday as scheduled.
Most of the passengers are expected to come ashore and go sight-seeing via the Scenic Railway, taxis and tour buses; sun and sea bathing, sailing, zip-lining, snorkeling, horseback riding, hiking and shopping.
The Serenade of the Seas and the Carnival Victory are visiting St. Kitts during the summer making year-round calls to this destination.
Serenade of the Seas and Carnival’s Victory will make a total of 31 calls during the off-season bringing an estimated 88,000 passengers to St. Kitts.
The passage of Hurricane Irene through the Caribbean has resulted in cruise lines rescheduling the itineraries of several ships including Carnival Pride, Allure of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, Monarch of the Seas, Majesty of the Seas, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Destiny, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Miracle, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Jewel.
