    Basseterre, St. Kitts:
Cable and Wireless, the leading telecommunications provider in the Federation, announced its sponsorship of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) League, through their Bmobile brand, in the amount of EC$100,000, in cash and kind, during a press briefing at the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI), on Thursday afternoon, 15th November.

The new partnership is valid for one year and according to Mrs. Laverne Caines, the Vice President of Corporate Communications at Cable and Wireless, there is the possibility of extension once the returns on the investment are satisfactory.

Mr. Peter Jenkins, President of the SKNFA, expressed his deep appreciation to Cable and Wireless for their decision to partner with his association and implored all other stakeholders of the SKNFA to work even closer together so that they can optimize the dividends of this new relationship.

He noted that a proposal was initially put forward to Cable and Wireless last year but because of the unavailability of Warner Park, discussions fell through. The return to Warner Park, though, has not signaled a return “home” but also opened the doors to greater relations with corporate citizens.

Jenkins also thanked the local Government for their decision to renovate Warner Park stadium.

The SKNFA also outlined number of initiatives that will ensure that the sport continues to flourish in the Federation. Among the initiatives are the preparation of several young players to sit the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and arrangement with a local educational institute to prepare high school players for the O’level exams.

He also stated that the partnership with Cable and Wireless will definitely be a positive step in the direction of preparations for the 2010.

Jenkins also encouraged other corporate citizens to partner with football, which is the most popular sport in the country.

Mr. Terrence Crossman, Vice President of Sales, speaking on behalf of his Chief Executive (CE) Pat Walters, says the new arrangement underlines his company’s interest in the development of sport.

He noted that football has been branded as the people’s sport and Cable and Wireless is recognized as the people’s company and that is the common ground of both organizations.

Crossman noted that the SKNFA and Cable and Wireless have had a longstanding relationship in the past but this new deal is just taking the relationship to another level.

“The power of the Bmobile brand will only enhance the mega following of football and it will positively impact the development of the youth,” Crossman added.

As part of the deal, both the SKNFA AND Cable and Wireless will promote a number of initiatives that will not only generate revenues but also complement their plans of regular giving back to football fans and nationals of the island.

A number of representatives from various teams and other interested persons were at the ceremony to participate in the publicizing of the monumental deal- Bmobile SKNFA Football League.
