Basseterre, St. Kitts: The past days of “peace and tranquility” from violence” was rudely disturbed on Saturday night last, November 17th, when a young man, Corey Wilkes, of Douglas Estate, narrowly escaped with his life after he was attacked by two masked assailants.
In the fracas, a shot was discharged, but fortunately Wilkes did not sustain any gunshot wound. He, however, sustained a wound to his face after he was struck with a gun butt.
The incident occurred just outside Wilkes’ home at approximately 9 p.m.
According to reliable sources, Wilkes left his house and went into a vehicle parked in his yard. He then reversed the vehicle into an open area just outside his gate with the intention of heading out toward the main road.
~~Adz:Right~~ While in the process of turning the vehicle, two masked assailants emerged from the bushes behind the vehicle and pointed their guns, a pump action and a pistol, at Wilkes’ face.
At that point, one of the assailants also threatened Wilkes’ life saying “I must kill you tonight!”
Instinctively, Wilkes struggled with the assailant with the pump action and the gun went off.
Wilkes was also calling out to his mother for help but she could not hear him.
The assailants then ordered the victim to be quiet and then asked him to hand over certain elements of jewelry. It was also during that span that he was hit in his face with the gun butt.
After taking some of the victim’s valuables, the two assailants fled.
A neighbour who heard the shot that was discharged called 911 and shortly after the Police arrived at the scene.
Sources indicate that the Police are questioning a young man in connection to the incident. There are doubts as to whether it was a planned robbery or it was an attack on Wilkes’ life.
