ROADTOWN, Tortola, 27th August 2011 - “The fact that a person who was born here to parents of expatriates and not able to get a BVI passport immediately is still a bone of contention for a long time,” the talk show host told listeners.

“Many listeners have call into the radio programmes…to lobby to the UK Government with respect to the British Nationality Act changed. Is this an issue that should be on the front-burner of any new Government?”

He also pondered on whether the issuances of naturalisation, registration and belonger’s status make Virgin Islanders a little bit uncomfortable.

“Do we need to regulate it some more? …Individuals who are eligible for belonger’s or naturalisation will feel better if the issuances were not at the whim and fancy of bureaucrats,” he charged. “It should be established in the law. People will be happy.”

With the 2011 general elections getting closer, the talk show host is of the view that the new Government should enter office with a mind-set that they are ready to serve the needs of the people.

“They need to know what they will tackle. Do they apply a bandag to areas that need it or have the mentality that we have four year to dance around instead of getting to the heart of the matter that is necessary for our survival,” Mr. Wheatley stated.

He appealed to politicians to “Look down the future, lay the foundation. You are preparing the BVI for something.”
