    Berger Paints & TDC Scholarship Award 2007 goes to Kazrano Gumbs

    Basseterre, St. Kitts: A small gathering witnessed the handing over ceremony of EC$5,500.00 to Mr. Kazrano Gumbs, the winner of the 7th Annual Berger Paints TDC Scholarship Award.  Gumbs is an 18 yr old Architectural student at the CFBC (Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College) and he hails from Ponds Estate, Basseterre, St. Kitts.

     

    Kazrano is a graduate of the Washington Archibald High School and in his spare time he enjoys arranging music for the Tornado Steel Orchestra and the St Kitts National Steel Orchestra.  

    He is presently pursuing the Architectural Design Technology Programme at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC).  Some of the components of his program of study include:  Survey, Design, Mechanical Science, Environmental Science and the like. 
     
    There are presently 11 students undertaking the same course of study as Kazrano, and of these a total of 7 showed interest in grasping the “Berger Paints & TDC Scholarship Award” but Kazrano was the one whose academic abilities, exemplary conduct and  performance at his admissions interview
    Mr Michael Leader, Faculty member in charge of the Architectural Design Technology Programme with Mr. Kazrano Gumbs
    outshone the  6 other candidates.  

    Kazrano was also the one identified as having the greatest financial need during the selection process.  A pre-requisite for consideration was that all applying students must have had a minimum of 5 CSEC subjects at General Proficiency.
     
    Dr Leighton Naraine, Vice Principal of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, addressed the small gathering and expressed appreciation of TDC & Berger Paints for partnering with CFBC in such a tangible act.  

    Dr Naraine also said he was pleased with the fact that local business places such as TDC were investing in the education of the youth and the community as a whole.
     
    The cheque was handed over by Mr Leon Bass, Assistant General Manager of TDC Home Centre and a Berger Paints representative.  Mr Bass gave a few encouraging words to the recipient, admonishing Kazrano to work hard and to prove he is worthy of the scholarship to his peers and the selection panel of the Berger Paints & TDC Scholarship Award.

    ~~Adz:Left~~ Kazrano, the proud recipient also spoke briefly, expressing his thanks to Berger Paints & TDC for selecting him as the 2007 Scholarship winner.  Kazrano promised to work hard at making TDC & Berger Paints proud.
     
    In closing remarks, the hostess, Mrs. Jonelle Rawlins-Drew, Project Officer of the TDC Marketing Department,  gave a little background information on the Scholarship and said she looked forward to a continued partnership with CFBC and hoped that soon TDC would be able to offer something similar to other schools around the island.
     
    Also present to witness the ceremony was Ms Venetta Mills, Student Affairs Director at the CFBC, Mr Michael Leader, Faculty member in charge of the Architectural Design Technology Programme, Mr James ‘Mologo’ Kelly, Head of Technical Division (CFBC).  The aforementioned persons were directly involved in the administration and selection processes of the Berger Paints & TDC Scholarship Award.
