    Over 20,000 cruise passengers expected in St. Kitts this week

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, DECEMBER 10TH 2007 (CUOPM)
    - The parade of cruise ships into the Basseterre Roadstead continues this week with the expected arrival of an estimated 20,000 passengers.
     
    Nine ships with an estimated passenger capacity of 20,947 are scheduled to visit the island. On Sunday, the 137,000 tonne Explorer of the Seas, which docked at Port Zante, arrived from Barbados with 3,154 passengers and a crew of 1,117. It sailed last evening for Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
     
    The Ocean Village Two, which docked at the Deep Water Cargo Port at Bird Rock, arrived from Philipsburg, St. Maarten with 1,756 passengers and a crew of 627 before departing for St. John’s, Antigua on Sunday evening.
     
    Today, Monday, the 113,000 tonne Crown Princess arrived from St. Thomas with2,296 passengers and a crew of 1,223. It sailed for Grenada at 3. 00 P.M.
     
    Two ships are expected on Tuesday. The Windsurf has a capacity of 308 passengers and the Constellation, a capacity of 2,450.
     
    Thursday sees the docking at Port Zante of the Carnival Miracle with an estimated passenger capacity of 2,680 passengers. On

    Friday, the 2,600-passenger Queen Mary 2 and the 1,800-passenger “Legend of the Seas visit.
    The week ends on Saturday with the visit of the 2,020 passenger Empress of the seas.
     
    Most of the passengers are expected to disembark and go on sight-seeing tours via taxis, tour buses and the St. Kitts Scenic Railway; shopping, sun and sea-bathing, hiking, horse-back riding, snorkeling, golfing, kayaking and sailing.
     
    The 2007/2008 Cruise Ship Season is set to be the best ever in the history of the industry with the expected visit of over 4250,000 cruise passengers.
     
    March is expected to be the best month with 81,013 passengers from 42 ship calls; 63,943 passengers are expected on board 34 ship calls in December, January lists a total of 68,038 passengers on board 35 cruise ship calls; while 54,320 passengers are expected on board 27 ship calls in February and33,357 passengers on board 19 ship calls in April.
     
    Although the 2007/2008 Cruise Ship Season officially ends in April, the Carnival Destiny which is calling all-year-round will make six calls with 13,394 passengers in May; 10,568 passengers in June, 13,210 passengers from five calls in July, and 10,568 passengers in August and a similar number from four calls in September.

    Returning to Port Zante are the 1,950-passenger Sea Princess; the 3,500-passenger Crown Princess; the 2,500-passenger Norwegian Dawn; the 2,600-passenger Queen Mary; the 2,020-passenger Empress of the Seas; the 1,975-passenger Aurora; the 2,450-passenger Constellation; the 2,272-passenger Oceana; the 1100-passeger Crystal Serenity; the 1906-passenger Queen Elizabeth II; the 1,975-passenger Oriana the 2,020-passenger Crystal Harmony; the 1,848-passenger Westerdam; the 1,870-passenger Galaxy; the 2,388-passenger Arcadia.
