Power outage caused by tripped engine

~~Adz:Left~~The tripping of an engine at the Power Station has been identified as the main cause for a power outage which took place on Monday evening.

A press release issued by the Electricity Department which was received by SKNVibes earlier today states that, “at approximately 11:43 p.m. on Monday December 10, 2007 the Mirrlees K8 engine tripped offline, causing the New MAN Holeby, the Mirrlees 8MB430 and the Caterpillar #2 engines to also trip.”

The release further informs that resultant of that, the system became unstable which forced the operators to open all feeders baring feeders for Port Zante and SSMC.

Before the restoration of power could begin, the operators then carried out checks on all engines and “feeder restoration” commenced at about 12:25 the following morning when the Industrial Site Feeder was closed.

“All feeders were closed by 1:00 a.m. expect for Basseterre South which was closed at 1:36 a.m.  At the time of this incident, the Mirrlees 12MB430 was offline for repair work.”

The Electricity Department has offered apologies to the general public for the inconvenience that the outage may have caused.
