Police Press Release

Royal St. Christopher-Nevis Police Force pleased with turn out at Town Hall Meeting

The panel which comprised Acting Commissioner Williams, Acting Deputy Commissioner Richardson, Acting Assistant Commissioner Joseph Liburd, Hon. Dr. Earl Martin, Insp. Belgrove, head of CID, and Mr. Glenroy Blanchette
The High Command of the Royal St. Christopher-Nevis Police Force is pleased with the turn out and participation of the Newtown Community, in the first of a series of town hall meetings to address the issue of crime and in particular gun related violence in the Federation. The audience of about 45 to 50 persons spoke frankly and criticized constructively some of the short comings of the Police Force, one of which was how removed from the community the Police appear, and the lack of urgency in response to reports or complaints from the community.

Acting Commissioner Williams outlined a number of initiatives that the Force has embarked upon to address the current gun crime problem. Some of these are 24 hrs mobile patrols in high risk areas, increased plain clothes and uniformed foot patrols, and a bicycle patrol in Basseterre and Frigate Bay. The panel which comprised Acting Commissioner Williams, Acting Deputy Commissioner Richardson, Acting Assistant Commissioner Joseph Liburd, Hon. Dr. Earl Martin, Insp. Belgrove, head of CID, and Mr. Glenroy Blanchette, made brief presentations and addressed questions and concerns from the floor.  The meeting ended at about 11:00 pm with a commitment from the Police to form a committee which will comprise of Police Officers and members of the New Town Community, to spearhead the Community Policing initiatives which the Force will soon embark upon.

Similar meetings are being planned for other communities around the island. ~~Adz:Right~~
