Sixty children from around the island will receive a courtesy call from the “Santacade” tomorrow, Thursday 13th December, and will receive gifts, compliments the Leo Santa.

The event, which is being organized by the St. Kitts (Basseterre) Leo Club, has been held for the past several years and this year is being held in collaboration with the St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board, NewFound Developers Caribbean, The Cable, Courts St. Kitts Nevis Ltd, Sports Zone, First Class Jewellery, Dollar Saver, The ECCB - Staff Association and the Carib Café.

The Santacade will begin at the McKnight Community Centre and will travel to the Newtown Primary School, the Beach Allen Primary School, will flow west through the countryside and will culminate at the Newton Ground Primary School.

Other Schools which will be visited are the Bronte Welsh Primary School, the Sandy Point Primary School and the Irishtown Primary School.

A press release issued by the Leo Club explained why the club members decided, some 12 years ago, to begin this practice. ~~Adz:Right~~

“Members of the St. Kitts (Basseterre) Leo Club believe  that Christmas is the most joyous season of the year and one in which  each and every child should have a smile on their face despite their economic or social status.  It is this belief that has prompted the club to collect donations of toys, books and other equipment which are later distributed to children from lower income families during an annual motorcade dubbed ‘Santa Cade’,” the release explains.

According to President of the Leo Club (Basseterre), Sheldon Connor, the annual Santacade is the climax of the annual activities organized by the club which included the Baby Cadel fundraising project which was organized in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of St. Kitts and the donation of sporting equipment to the Newton Ground Primary School, the school which the club has adopted and sponsored.

He told SKNVibes that as a culmination to the Santacade, another presentation of sporting equipment will be made to the school.

“The dedicated and enthused Leos vow to continue to contribute individually and collectively and to provide devoted service to the local community in 2008.” he said.
