(Basseterre, St. Kitts): Some residents of Sandy Point are expressing there disgust about the lack of urgency to address a pothole at the foot of Farms Road, Sandy Point, which has seriously inconvenienced pedestrians and motorists alike.
The pothole came into existence after some Public Works personnel dug up the area to lay some underground works. However, they did not fill back the hole properly.
As a result, water continually settles in the pothole, especially in the last few days with the increased rainfall, and it has become a health hazard.
According to one resident, she has been calling the Ministry of Health and the Public Works Department constantly to complain about the hole for quite some time and nothing has been done yet.
She also noted that she is concerned for the health of her children and others in the area because of the amount of water that settles inside of the hole when it rains, making it a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
The resident also drew attention to the fact that the hole is getting wider at a rapid pace.
Pedestrians have to walk around the hole as it has almost taken up the entire bottom entrance of the street, thus preventing persons from walking directly through.
The residents are calling upon the proper authorities to look into the situation to see how best it can be addressed.
