CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, September 6, 2011 - The reigning Nevis Culture Queen, Santonya Mills, on Saturday registered for Pink Lily Cancer Care Walkathon scheduled to be held on October 15,2011.

Pink Lily Cancer Care will mark the annual breast cancer global awareness month by hosting a walkathon dubbed 25K 100.  The theme of the walkathon is “Stand Up to Cancer.”

Pink Lily Chairperson and Events Coordinator Julie Claxton welcomed the reigning queen’s passion to fight breast cancer and called on people from all walks of life to follow the example set by the Nevis Culture Queen, to stand up to cancer by registering to participate in the Pink Lily walkathon.

Money raised through the annual walkathon enables Pink Lily to offer free mammograms to women aged between 39-67 who are at  risk of getting breast cancer.  Already, 100 Nevisian women have received free mammograms during the first phase of the charity’s Breast Screening Program(BSP) at a cost of EC25,000.

A total of $EC17,823.70 has already been raised to help Pink Lily begin the  second phase of the Breast Screening Program. The fund needs to be further boosted as EC25,000 is required to complete the second phase of the charity’s Breast Screening Program through which 100 women will receive free counseling, literature, mammograms, care and support.
