Ms. Desery Ottley originally of Bath Village, Nevis
(Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) --- 25 year old Desery Ottley of Brown Hill Village, Nevis, is making her mark in New York through her pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in the field of Hospitality Management, at Monroe College in New York.

Best known for her position as newscaster at Voice of Nevis (VON) Radio which is located in Bath Village, Ottley attended the Charlestown Secondary School from the years 1997-1999 and then went on the Charlestown Sixth Form College where she pursued studies in the fields of English Literature and Management of Business (MOB).

After leaving school, Ottley enjoyed working at VON Radio assuming the position of Newscaster and in 2007 made the decision to attend the Monroe College which is located on New Rochelle Campus, New York.

“The school is a small institution and it provides almost personalized attention. The professors are professional and caring. International Experience was also a deciding factor in my choice of the institution and the fact that the U.S. tertiary institutions are known for using the hands on approach along with theory. I feel that the balance is a good one,” Ottley said.

~~Adz:Right~~ “I have chosen to do my degree in Hospitality Management and I chose that programme because I feel it fits well with my personality. I am an outgoing person who likes to meet people and explore new places. The Hospitality Industry is one of the rapidly expanding economies in the world with no sight of it stopping anytime soon”, she said during an exclusive interview with SKNVibes.com.

With the expansion of the Nevisian economy and the expected construction of a new hotel in Nevis by 2008, Ottley described her hopes of making a significant contribution to the Tourism sector of Nevis.

“I am actually hoping to impart my knowledge to those I will have to cooperate with in the future. As you would know by now the industry has linkages with a number of other industries. I hope that I would be able to advise and educate others on how Nevis and the Caribbean can stay ahead in the industry especially with the new trends,” she continued.

The Nevis native positively described her experience at the Monroe College and further encouraged young persons interested in a pursuit of tertiary education.

“My experience at Monroe so far has been excellent. I have been to a number of places with the school such as the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, The World’s Largest Hotel and Restaurant Show. My presence at Monroe is already a major contribution.

“For those interested in attending university don't wait to long to do it. It is fun and enriching at the same time. Take it seriously but not to seriously that you can't have fun. If you make it through you will find that there is light at the end of the tunnel, a nice starting salary, and a degree in your major,” Ottley concluded.
