BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS the celebration of their 40th milestone continues, the St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank (SKNANB) yesterday (Sept. 12), launched their first primary school Scholarship Programme.

Taking place at the National Bank CardCentre on Porte Zante, Basseterre, the ceremony saw 10 students from the various Primary Schools in St. Kitts being acknowledged as the recipients of the National Bank 40th Anniversary School Scholarship Programme in the presence of their parents and guardians and SKNANB officials.

The recipients were Geneva Matthew of the Dieppe Bay Primary School, Lufkin Foster of Tyrell –Williams Primary, Jalen Monzac of Dr. William Connor Primary, Kiana Samuel of Sandy Point Primary, Jarell Yearwood of Irishtown, Antonette Adams of Saddlers Primary, Zhanel Akers of Estridge Primary, Zena Davis of Bronte Welsh Primary, Shaniqua Harris of Newton Ground Primary, and Annica Carey of the Edgar T. SKNANB’s Manager in the Legal Unit, Natika Rawlins wished the students continued success on behalf of the Bank, urged them to continue to stand out and excel, and congratulated them on being chosen for such a scholarship.

Assistant Managing Director in charge of the Internal Audit Unit of SKNANB, Anthony Galloway, explained that the students were chosen based on their academic ability and socio-economic needs.

The scholarships, he said, were in the form of school uniforms, books, school shoes, and such items that are deemed necessary for attending school.

He also explained that the total scholarship worth was EC$7 500 for St. Kitts. Four students were chosen in Nevis and their scholarships totalled EC$3 000 making the grand total EC$10 500 worth of scholarships

During the ceremony, the students, parents and guardians were permitted to say a few words. They spoke of how much they appreciated the scholarship grant, and how helpful it was to receive this much needed assistance.

The scholarship programme is one that has been recently implemented as one of the activities commemorating SKNANB’s 40th Anniversary.

It is a one year scholarship geared towards students in their final year of primary school, providing their parents and guardians with financial assistance in purchasing school supplies.

Galloway said that SKNANB realises that there is a genuine need in this area of assistance and that is the reason behind the launch of the Scholarship Programme as well as the consideration of making it annual.
