BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September13th 2011 (CUOPM) – Hundreds of students in the fifth and fourth forms of high schools in St. Kitts will receive their  personal laptops on Wednesday 14th September when Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and his Cabinet make the annual pilgrimage as part of independence anniversary celebrations.

Visits will be made first to the Basseterre High School, followed by the Washington Archibald High School, the Convent High School, the Cayon High School, the Charles E. Mills Secondary School and the Verchild’s High School.

Visits will also be made to the Saddlers Secondary School and the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.

Last month, Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Miguel Tsao presented 2,400 lap tops to Prime Minister Douglas on behalf of the Government and people of Taiwan in the 2nd Phase of the One-2-One Laptop Programme. Over 800 laptops were distributed to fifth formers in June this year.

Prime Minister Douglas promised on accepting the laptops, that fifth and fourth form students in St. Kitts will receive their personal Lap-tops at the start of the new school term.

He said the One-to-One Lap Top Computer Initiative is not simply empowering the individual student but the entire household, community and nation.

“I think that Nevisian and Kittitian student is going to develop skills which would be critically important in advancing St. Kitts and Nevis technologically. That child will not only be developing those skills at home, but also the sister, the brother, the mother, the father, the entire family is going to be empowered,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

He said the assistance of the Government and People of the Republic of China puts St. Kitts and Nevis on the path towards a technological revolution and it is only time that will show the enormous benefits that will accrue.
