Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 13th, 2011 (SKNIS): Commissioner of Police Celvin G. Walwyn touted the importance of motivating the ranks as he presented a “Letter of Commendation” to Constable Alvin Mitchum, who spent one year in Taiwan learning Chinese Mandarin.
Mitchum now speaks Mandarin fluently and has acquired a skill the Commissioner described as “very necessary” given the increased diversity of the community in St. Kitts and Nevis. At a brief Commendation Ceremony, Commissioner Walwyn praised Constable Mitchum for his desire to upgrade his skills.
“I urge you to keep up the good work Sir and to continue to make a positive contribution to this organization. I also take this opportunity to encourage you to strive and settle for nothing but the best in your daily efforts,” he said.
“I know the benefit of being acknowledged,” Commissioner Walwyn said referring to his 25 year law enforcement past when he earned several awards as a Deputy.
“So I know that officers who are inspired, like Constable Mitchum, will continue to be very productive, and if they are feeling inspired, the public feels the benefit on the street level.”
The head of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force explained that this will be a regular occurrence under his watch.
“I support my men and I will let them know when they are doing a good job,” he stressed.
Letters of Commendation were also prepared for Superintendent Robert Liburd who reportedly performed outstandingly during a recent special operation, as well as for the three Immigration Officers that apprehended an unidentified Asian male in transit at the R. L. Bradshaw International Airport who tried to enter the United States on fraudulent papers.
