Basseterre, St. Kitts: The 2007 Leo Santacade which was held over the weekend has been hailed by its organizers as “a success”.

On Saturday, 15th the Santacade began at the McKnight Community Centre and made its way around the island, visiting children who were assembled at the Newtown Primary, Beach Allen Primary, Newton Ground Primary, Irishtown Primary, Bronte Welsh and the Sandy Point Primary Schools.

At each location, the Leo Santa and the Santacade team spread Christmas cheer to the children assembled, by distributing Christmas goodies.

President of the St. Kitts (Basseterre) Leo Club, Sheldon Connor, told SKNVibes.com that while there were some hiccups, the event was a success.

“Generally, it was good.  We had some problems but all in all, it was good.  It came off well.  We went to the six schools and the response from the children was rewarding,” he said.

Connor said that a gift was also presented to “Baby Cadel” who, not too long ago, returned from the United States of America where he underwent heart surgery.  Cadel’s family presented the Leos with a plaque of appreciation and gratitude for the assistance they provided them.

The final stop for the Santacade, and also the final St. Kitts (Basseterre) Leo Club activity for 2007, was at the home of “Mr. George” whom the Leos adopted.  While at his home, they assisted the elderly man with his Christmas cleaning and presented him with a new bed from Courts Ltd. and a food hamper.

Connor explained that those children who, for whatever reason, were unable to show up at the school to collect their Christmas gift, can collect them from him at his office during the course of the week.

“This is just our little way of spreading Christmas cheer…..”
