From Trash to Treasure
~~Adz:Left~~Basseterre, St. Kitts (December 27, 2007): Members of the UNESCO Small Islands Voice Committee and volunteers are making the final preparations for the annual Clean Up Troupe.
Under the theme: “From Trash to Treasure” SIV members give the message that discarded material can be turned into beautiful creations, that surroundings that were once dirty can be made into symbolic treasure when cleaned.
As is customary, the troupe will follow at the rear of the Grand Carnival Parade and physically demonstrate care for the environment by cleaning the parade route in conjunction with the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC).
The general public is invited to join the troupe by making contact with SIV members at the UNESCO National Commission Office in the old education building on Cayon Street or joining in the clean-up fun on Parade Day. SIV takes the opportunity to remind residents that taking care of our environment is every individual’s responsibility.
