Youth to Create Theme for 25th Independence
~~Adz:Left~~ Basseterre, St. Kitts (January 10, 2008): As plans get underway for the year-long Silver Jubilee Independence Celebrations, schools and youth organizations are being courted to create the theme for the milestone event.
During a recent National Independence Celebrations Committee meeting, Chairman, the Hon. Sam Condor expressed that “this will give the youth a stake in the fate of our nationhood and the fulfillment of their aspirations” and added that, “the whole country stands to gain from an empowered youthful generation!”
He said that this was a call for the schools and the youth organizations to work towards increasing their representation and expression that would enable them to live in an environment that enhanced their capabilities, and provided them with adequate assistance and support.
The General Committee members also engaged in discussions surrounding the need to have the schools and youth organizations create an activity that required original thinking, planning and enacting.
A new committee with the grouping Sports, Youth, Science and Technology has been established to streamline the process.
An Independence Secretariat will be set up in the near future, but persons can volunteer to serve on any of the various committees, including the Community Rallies, Floats, Celebrations, Lighting, and the Thanksgiving Service, and Religious Committees.
Submissions for the Independence Theme should be sent to the Research, Documentation, Marketing and Public Relations Committee at Government Headquarters, Church Street, Basseterre. Submissions should be received by February 15, 2008.
