BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TODAY (Sept 22), a cheque valued at EC$3 315.34, was handed over by the Bank of Nova Scotia to the Irish Town Primary school.

The cheque was donated following a car wash that the school held in conjunction with the Bank as part of their [bank] commitment to community involvement.

In a short ceremony which took place at the Irish Town Primary School, the Bank’s Assistant Manager for Retail Collections, Lilian Fleming made the presentation to the school’s principal Jean Nisbett-Boddie in the presence of some of the students and teachers.

Fleming explained that the Bank saw the need for installing fans in the school, but instead of just making a donation, they decided to get students, teachers and members of the bank involved in a community activity and so the car wash came about.

She explained that the car wash took place at the Best Buy parking lot on June 18. Persons came and their cars were washed and there were individuals who did not have vehicles to be washed but made contributions.

She went on to explain that the Bank of Nova Scotia in Toronto has a Team Scotia Community Program. When any other Branch of the Bank hosts or gets involved in a community project to raise funds, the Toronto Branch will match the amount of funds raised.

The school raised EC$1 657.67 at the car wash.
Tickets for the car wash were compliments Mac Pennies.

The principal thanked the representatives for not only making the contribution, but putting on the car wash as well. She also encouraged them to continue to get involved in community activities as it is beneficial and greatly appreciated.

Fleming promised that the Bank would continue to be supportive of the communities because they are indeed committed to being involved not just in the education arena but all aspects of community endeavour.
