BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ‘FOOD Crisis: From crisis to stability’ will be the theme, and come Saturday, October 15, the Sandy Point Market is the place to be as the Sandy Point Agricultural Co-operative Society Ltd (SPACS) will be hosting a Food Fair.

The Food Fair is being held in celebration of World Food Day, and SPACS is gearing up to have an action packed day of activities starting at 8:00 a.m.

One of the highlights will be a Cooking Competition featuring two caterers battling to see who can prepare an inexpensive but most nutritious dish.

Another highlight is expected to be a skit. This dramatic play will be educating persons in attendance about the ways in which the nation can move from away from food crisis into food stability.

The feature for the event will be the releasing of their “Fighting for Food Security” video that was originally scheduled to preview at their Second Annual Agri-Independence Cultural Expo that was held on September 17.

According to Lionel ‘Trustme’ Stevens, one of SPACS farmers, the video was submitted in the Caribbean Science and Agriculture Film and Video Competition, following a workshop that SPACS attended in Trinidad in December of last year (2010).

Stevens said that the experience in producing the video was one in a lifetime as they acquired a vast amount of knowledge pertaining to film production but more so, about agricultural production which he said is their main focus.

Bouncing castles for the children, lots of give-aways and lucky dips are all to be expected at the Fair.

Four raffles will be done and those lucky winner will receive EC$50 and EC$75 grocery shopping vouchers compliments Dollar Stretcher, E&K Mini Mart, and SPACS all of Sandy Point.

Stevens said that the fair is about Agriculture supporting the community while the community supports Agriculture.

Entrance to the Fair is free all day! SPACS invites the general public to come on down, show some support and take advantage of all that will be available as they strive to bring fun and excitement to agriculture.
