Federation’s murder rate at record-breaking 28
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Federation’s murder rate reached a record-breaking high earlier today when at Camps Village, Nevis, a young man was shot to death.
The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Adjel Jeffers.
Details into the incident remain sketchy however according to unconfirmed reports reaching this publication, the incident occurred sometime after 1:00 a.m. (Sept. 23).
Further reports suggest that the young man was either in his yard or in the vicinity of his yard when he was approached by a gunman(or gunmen) who opened fire allegedly striking him several times about the body.
SKNVibes made several attempts to contact the Public Relations Officer (PRO) attached to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), Sergeant Stephen Hector for information surrounding the incident, but all calls were unanswered and at press time were unreturned.
Jeffers’ death marks the 28th to have occurred in the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis for 2011, the last taking place more than one month ago, (Aug. 20).
On that date at about 4:45 a.m. Lime Kiln resident Lincoln Liburd was executed while he rested at his home in his bed.
The Federation’s 28th murder is the first to have occurred since the baton of command of the RSCNPF changed hands from Austin Williams (who held the Commissionership for approximately four years) to Commissioner Celvin ‘CG’ Walwyn.
The period of calm which the Federation experienced for the past month was more than welcomed by its residents and the genuine hope was that it would continue for, at least, an extended period.
In 2010, the murder rate stood at 20 and during the year prior, 27 were recorded.
Investigations into this morning’s incident are being actively pursued and persons in possession of information which could assist the authorities in cracking the case, are asked to contact either the Criminal Investigations Department at 469 5391 or the New Castle Police Station at 469 9326.
Information given would be held in the strictest of confidence.
